Business Global smartphone wholesale revenue will increase by 13% year-on-year in 2021

The latest research by Strategy Analytics pointed out that in 2021, global smartphone wholesale revenue will increase by 13% year-on-year. It is the highest revenue growth in six years. Although economic uncertainty and the COVID-19 epidemic have led to a decline in consumer confidence, with the support of the iPhone 12 super cycle and the global migration to 5G, the market will be able to rebound in 2021.

Boris Metodiev, Deputy Director of Strategy Analytics, said:" Although global smartphone wholesale revenues felled by 5% year-on-year due to the global COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, we expect smartphone wholesale revenues to rebound strongly by 13% in 2021 and continue to grow in the next few years. The economic recovery after the global lockdown related to the COVID-19, the overdue replacement of old equipment, the increase in component prices, and the migration to 5G will all contribute to revenue growth in 2021."

"We predict that by 2021, global smartphone sales will increase by 7% year-on-year to 1.4 billion units. And global smartphone wholesale average selling prices (ASP) will increase by 6% to US$294. This will drive the wholesale revenue of smartphones to more than US$400 billion."  Sui Qian, Senior Director of Strategy Analytics, added.

We expect that due to the super cycle of the iPhone 12, the ultra-high-end market (the wholesale price of $600 and above) will perform exceptionally well, and this year will contribute nearly half of the wholesale revenue."

David Kerr, Senior Vice President of Strategy Analytics, pointed out:"We expect that by 2021, China, the United States, India and Japan, the four countries will account for 54% of global smartphone wholesale revenue. In India and Brazil, due to the COVID-19 epidemic worsening, and there are still downside risks on shipment volume and value. But, in general, we are still optimistic about replacement sales and new customers."
