Business TrendForce: Global smartphone production growth in Q3 2021 by 5.7%

According to a recent report by TrendForce, the smartphone market showed improvement in the second half of this year due to the peak season of e-commerce promotions and the relief of the new crown epidemic in Southeast Asia and other regions. But, the severe shortage of components such as 4G SOC, low-end 5G SOC, display panel driver IC and so on restricts smartphone brands from increasing equipment output in the second half of the year. Looking forward to the third quarter, the total quarterly output of smartphones was approximately 325 million units, an increase of 5.7% from the previous quarter.

For the total output in 2021, TrendForce lowered its forecast to 1.335 billion units, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%. The previous forecast was 1.345 billion units, an increase of 7.3% year-on-year.

New model release helped Apple regain its second position in the world

Samsung''s smartphone production in the third quarter increased by 17.9% from the previous quarter to 69 million units. The increase was mainly because the stable production capacity of its equipment assembly plant in Vietnam. Samsung continues to be at the top of the global smartphone brand rankings and has the largest market share in production. Apple released four iPhone 13 series in the third quarter of 2021. Due to their contribution, total iPhone production in the third quarter of 2021 increased by 22.6% year-on-year to 51.5 million units. With this result, Apple has also been able to climb to the second place in the world.

In the third quarter, OPPO smartphone production increased by 3% from the previous quarter to 51 million units, ranking third. Xiaomi ranked fourth, with smartphone production falling 10% month-on-month to 44.5 million units. Vivo’s smartphone production was relatively stable compared with the previous quarter, at approximately 34 million units.


Honor will enter overseas markets next year


After the spare parts reserve and business reorganization in the first half of this year, Honor now has a more solid foundation and will achieve an annual output of 43.5 million smartphones. In the 2021 global smartphone brand rankings, Honor is expected to be ranked eighth. Besides, Honor as an independent brand has acquired Google Mobile Services.
